Cricket 1884

2 1 0 CRICKET; A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. J une is , i884 the first innings of Middlesex, 34 overs for 34 runs and six wickets, was a fine perform ance against a strong batting side. There are few keener or harder working cricketers than Mr. Page. He is a very plucky hat, as his performances at different times suf ficiently prove. His defence is strong, and he has also good hitting powers. He is very fond of pulling the ball off the wicket round to leg, and, indeed, gets a lot of runs by means of thie stroke. As a bowler he is always useful. His delivery is medium pace, and, as his howling is very straight, and of good length, he is generally to be relied upon. He has a slight break from the off, though, every now and then he puts in a curly one from leg. He is a thoroughly hard-working and safe field anywhere, but especially at mid-off. Mr. Page is one of the few prominent cricketers who have never made a hundred, though we hope to be able to record one before the end of the season. His nearest approach to the “ century ” is his 93 for Gloucestershire v. Notts, at Chel tenham, last year. Mr. Page, too, is a Rugby football player and has represented Glouces tershire in that game as well as cricket. He is also a Classical Exhibitioner of Wadham College, and has just taken honours in Classical Moderations. He is well-known on the river, and as stroke of the Wadham boat helped to take it up five places in the races of last March. ¥ p E :g C 0 ^ E > B 0 0 K .
