T he Cam bridge E leven deserve to be con ­ gratulated on a good perform ance in beating a strong eleven of the G entlem en of E ngland, yesterday, at C am bridge. The Cantabs opened w ell w ith a score o f 266, but they did not fare so w ell against M r. C. T . Studd’s bow ling, when they went in a second tim e, and of their total of 179, th e two old Etonians, M essrs. J. Studd and Bainbridge, both of w hom played fine cricket, contributed 146. W ith 179 to win, the Gentlem en m ade a good start, and 99 had been scored for on ly tw o w ickets. T h e Cam bridge E leven played up well, and chiefly by the aid o f T opham ’s bow ling, w ere able to win, after an exciting finish, by 12 runs. The H on.
