NOTTS v. SUSSEX. Sussex suffered a decisive defeat in its first county match of the season played on the Trent Bridge Ground, Nottingham, on Thursday and Friday last. Its eleven was anything but a strong one, and in addition they had all the worst of the luck in losing the toss. Play was not begun till past one o’clock on Thursday owing to rain, and this did not improve the chances of Sussex. The wicket played well for Notts on the first day, but with the sun on it on Friday it was very treacherous and the Nottingham bowling proved so effective that A. Payne’s second score of eighteen was the highest on the side of Sussex. Shaw took six wickets and Attewell eight wickets, each at a cost of 22 runs. Notts won by an innings and 152 runs. The figures of Flowers and Attewell in second innings of Sussex were, except in the matter of wickets, identical. N o ttin g h a m sh ir e .
