Cricket 1884
m a y is, 1884. CEICKET; A WEEKLY RECOBD OP THE GAME, 123 UNIVERSITY ELEVEN v. FRESHMEN. SIXTEEN Some heavy scoring was the result of this match played in the Parks at Oxford on Thursday last and two following days. In all 879 were scored for forty wickets, an average of 22 runs for each batsman. The feature of the match was the brilliant bat ting of Mr. A. R. Cobb, the Winchester captain of 1883. He played splendid cricket in both innings. His second score of 190 was a magnificent performance. He only gave one difficult chance, and that when he had made 110. This is, it is said, the largest innings as yet made on the ground in the Parks. In the first innings of the Fresh men E. Money-Wigram took seven wickets for 73 runs. Otherwise there was little worthy of note in the bowling. The game was drawn. T h e S ix te e n . E. D. Shaw, c Grant- Asher, b Page .. .. 50 H. B. Tristram, b Page 17 T. C.
