With a view to a little variety the Maryle- fn 1®auth0ritie8 decided to substitute this match r that between the M.C.C. & Ground and Wenty-two Colts of England, which had for the last few years formed the opening of the season at Lord’s. Unfortunately as many had feared, the Northern Youngsters proved to be altogether too much for their opponents, and the game fixed for Thursday and Friday wa.) finished by 5.30 on the first afternoon. The Southerners went in first, but Shilton (medium left), and Richardson (fast round), bowled unchanged, and the innings only reached 43, Shilton taking six and Richardson four wickets each at a cost of twenty runs. Bean, Wardall and Warren batted well for the North, and Smithurst hit hard but with plenty of luck. The second innings of the Southerners was remarkable for an extraordinary bowling feat of Harrison of Yorkshire. The light was exceedingly bad, and as he bowls at a great pace he was very difficult to see. Painter’s twenty-eight included a drive for six from Harri son,but the ten other batsmen together only made eight runs and seven of them failed to score- Harrison clean bowled five wickets in six balls, and m all lie was credited with nine wickets at a cost of only fourteen runs. The North won by an innings and thirty-two runs. S outh . CLAPTON WANDERERS v. LANSDOWNE. Played at the match ground, Finsbury Park, on Saturday, May 5. C lapton W anderers . H.
