Cricket 1883

NOV. 29,1888. CEICKET; A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 445 I N D E X “ SCORES AND B I OGRAPH I E S . ” T h e want of an Index to the thirteen volumes representing the continuous history of cricket from the year 1746 has materially affected the value of the admirable work originated and solely carried out by Mr. Arthur Haygarth. Its utility as a record has been considerably dis counted solely by the difficulty of tracing matches where the exact dates are not to hand, and for the want of an easy method of reference to subjects of particular interest. Through the kindness of an enthusiastic student of cricket lore a carefully compiled index to the thirteen volumes already published of “ Scores and Bio graphies ” has come into the possession of the editor of C r ic k e t . With his permission, as well as that of the Committee of the Marylebone Club and the compiler, Mr. Arthur Haygarth, who have most courteously granted leave for its pub lication, we propose to publish this Index during the winter numbers. The first instalment is given herewith, and it will be completed with all possible despatch. Rapid Scoring CURIOSITIES OP CRICKET.
