Emmett, and one composed of profes sionals of Notts and Lancashire, chosen by Bar- low, was concluded yesterday on the Holbeck Recreation Ground, Leeds. Rain prevented playonMonday, and after the wet the ground— never favourable for run-getting—was all in favour of the bowlers. The feature of the match was the brilliant hitting of Bates in both inn ings. In the first he scored 64 cut of 147 from the bat, in the second 79 (including three sixes) out of 119. The Holbeck ground is a lucky one for Bates, as for Yorkshire against Surrey on July 23, he made 55 outof a total of 116. Em mett’s team won by 136 runs. E m m ett ’ s First Innings.
