The above tour commenced at Tunbridge Wells on Monday, August 13, and terminated at Eastbourne on Thursday, August 30. Eight matches were played, viz:—v.Tunbridge Wells, Hastings and District, Gentleman of Sussex, Windmill Hill, Lewes Priory, Devonshire Park (Eastbourne), South Saxons,and Eastbourne the club won no less than six of these, and suffered defeat in one match only (Tunbridge Wells); the concluding match at Eastbourne ending in a draw. Ford, v. South Saxons. 55 C. I. Thornton, v. Hastings. In bowling Rylott claimed43 wickets at a cost of 10 runs per wicket; Attewell, 37 for 7 runs per wicket; and C.H. Allcock, 37 for 9 runs per wicket. W. J. Ford, H. J. Hill, and G. H.Wood proved useful changes. Owing to the numerous applications for places in the various matches, the manager of the tour found it advisable to arrange on several occasions to play 12 a side. With the exception of the first day at Brighton, the weather was delightfully fine, and altogether the tour proved by far the most successful the M.C.C. have had in the South of England. M.C.C.
