After having to follow on ina minority of 113 runs, the Derbyshire eleven secured a very creditable victory in this, the last match of the County season, at Brighton yesterday. When Chatterton and Mr. Evershed became partners in the second innings, Derbyshire had lost six wickets for 40, and 73 were still required to save the inningswith four wickets to fall. Chatterton played excellent cricket, and Mr. Evershed hit as freely as at the Oval, so that the game under went a great change. These two batsmen while together added as many as 98 runs, and it was entirely due to them that the innings reached 216, of which Chatter ton contributed 61 by very good cricket. Yester day, after a night of heavy rain, Sussex went in with 104 to win, and the Derbyshire bowlers, helped by a treacherous wicket, and excellent all-round fielding, had all the best of the play. Mr. Whitfeld oarriedout his bat for a very careful 26, but no one else m%de a long stay, and as the innings only reached 74, Derby shire wonwith29 runs to spare. Mariow’stowling figures it will be seen were excellent. He took six wickets for 27- runs, and of his 46 overs as many as 32 were maidens. S ussex . First Innings.
