Surrey won their return match with Glouces tershire, the first fixture of the Cheltenham week yesterday, with nine wickets to spare. Winning the tcs 3 , they had the best of the wicket, but their success was again in a great measure due to the effective bowling of Barratt. In the first innings of Gloucestershire, Mr. Page, the Oxonian, was the only batsman who made any show, and he scored 50 out of a total of 109. In the match, Barratt took twelve Gloucester shire wickets at a cost of 118 runs. S u rrey . First Innings. Mr. K. J. The Yorkshire Eleven won their returnmatch with Sussex at Brighton yesterday in an Innings with 52 runs to- spare, avenging their previous defeat by three runs. At the end of the first day therewas little to choose between the two elevens, Yrorkshiie, after getting Sussex out for 174 having lost four of its best wickets for 80. A deter mined stand by the Hon. M. B. Hawke andHall, who added 98 while they were together on the second day, however, gave Yorkshire a decided advantage, and the innings ultimately reached 331. Hall went in first and carried out his bat for 124. He was missed four times, but, not withstanding these mistakes, it was a fine dis play of batting. Sussex, when they went in a second time, wanted 157 to save the innings, but no stand was made and the eleven were all out for 105. The attendance were very large on Monday and Tuesday, and, as a benefit, the match was successful. The Earl of Sheffield, the Sussex President, contributed £100 to Charlwood’s subscription list.
