The Yorkshire Eleven yesterday succeeded in defeating Gloucestershire in the return match, played at theHorton Avenue Ground, Bradford, with eight wickets to spare. Peate, who was absent at the Oval last week, again took his place in the Eleven instead of Mr. Hirst. Glou cestershire was also stronger than it has been as yet this season, the only absenteesbeingMessrs. Moberley and Page.Gloucestershiregoing in first were not dismissed until they had reached the total of 177, to which the three first batsmen contributed 131. Mr. Cranstonwent in first and carried bat his for 67. He gave two chances, but on the whole it was afinedisplay of batting.York shire made a bad start, losing four of their best batsmen for 52. At the close of the first day they had lost five wickets for 118, but on the following morning the remaining batsmen all scored well, and the last five wickets put on 210 runs. Woof had injured one of his fingers so severely that he only bowled two overs onthe first day, and as he was not tried at all on the followingmorningGloucestershire wasplacjd ata great disadvantage. PeateandPeel, whiletogether, added as many as 126 runs. Following on in ami nority of 151,the brothers Grace made 94 runs for the first wicket, and yesterday the innings closed for 213, of which Mr. Pullen contributed 41 by good cricket.
