NOTTS v. SUSSEX. The Nottingham eleven gained a very easy victory over Sussex, in their first match of the season, played on the Trent Bridge Ground, Nottingham, on Monday and Tuesday last. The Sussex captain, winning the toss, had the advantage of going in first on a good wicket, but the bowling of Shaw, Wright, and Attewell proved too much for them, and the last- named took five wickets at a cost of only twenty- one runs. The feature of the Nottingham innings was the brilliant play of Shrewsbury. Mr. McCormick missed him in the long field when he had made thirty-two, tut otherwise his play was faultless, and he was at the wickets three hours and three-quarters for his ninety- eight. Mr. Wyatt hit very well in the second innings of Sussex, but despite the good play of Humphreys andMr.McCormick, the total did not exceed 142, and Notts won by an innings and thirty-seven runs. Mr. B. E. Nicholls, one of the successful bowlers for Winchester against Eton, made his debut for Sussex in this match. The analysis will show that his twenty-seven overs cost thirty-eight runs without a wicket. Score and analysis. S ussex . First Innings. Second Innings. J. Hide, c Sherwin, b W. The Past brought down a very stroug team, as they had not won a match since 1879, but the Present again scored a win, chiefly owing to some very smart fielding all round and capital batting on tbe part of the captain, E. S. Crewse, and E. Pereira. P ast . W. J. Sparrow, c Pollen,bE. Pereira.................................. 0 0 Rev. F. J. N. Roe, b E.Pereira 1 4 H. F. Eaton, c Smythe, b E.
