JULY 19,1883.1 CEICKET; A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 2 5 3 CLIFTON COLLEGE v. SHERBORNE SCHOOL Played at Clifton on Friday and Saturday, July 13 and 14. Clifton won in one innings by 119 runs. Sherbornewon the toss and went in on a very sticky wicket, and so slow was the scoring that only six runs were got in the first fifty minutes; their innings of eighty-three occupied two hours and three-quarters, Grenfell and Shel don showing good form. The wicket was much improved when Clifton hegan batting and runs came very fast. Key’s fifty-nine was a very lucky contribution, and Brain hit hard for his forty, but he seemed hardly in his best form ; Sandford made his forty-four without a mistake, though he scored very slowly. Tonks and Mayo made a good start for Sherborne in their second attempt, but on Brain and Fowler taking up the bowling tho side utterly collapsed, the last nine wickets falling for seven runs. Brain took five wickets for four runs, Fowler three for five. S herborne S chool . First Innings. Second Innings. H. H. Mayo, c Fowler, b Key A. G.
