Ridgway went in first, and though they only totalled thirteen, headed their opponents by four runs, the Rangers only scoring nine, including six extras. Each side made thirty-four in their second “ hands,” so that Ridgway won by four runs. O n June 23, for Mr. Belcher’s eleven v. Brigh ton College, Mr. C, J. Willock took five wickets for three runs. On the same day at Barnes, for Brixton Wanderers v. Cleveland, R. Worthing ton got seven wickets (all clean bowled) for nine runs. SURREY v. SUSSEX. The Surrey eleven added another to their successes of the season at the Oval on Tuesday, defeating Sussex by an innings and 119 runs. Both sides were well represented, but Sussex made such a very poor show on an excellent wicket against Barratt’s bowling that their total only reached 80, and they thus lost all the advantage they might have gained from winning the toss. Though there was plenty of bowling on the side of Sussex, nine of the Surrey eleven got double figures, and aided by some loose fielding they were able to claim a lead of 221 runs on the first innings. Mr. John Shuter’s score, though he was not quite at home at first, was a well got one, and his hitting, especially towards the close, showed all its old vigour. His success was the more gratifying, as he has been a little out of luck this year. After the thunderstorm of Monday it was hardly expected that Sussex would be able to save the innings, and the delivery of five balls after luncheon on Tuesday brought the match to a close. Henderson again played good cricket for Surrey, and was also of great use with the ball at the finish. S u ssex . First Innings. Mr. H. Whitfeld, b Barratt.. 2 Mr. W.
