On an excellent wicket an innings was completed on Thursday by each side, with an advantage of 56 runs to the University. After this the luck was much against the county, as with a slippery ball and ground on Friday they had the worst of the out cricket, and as the ground dried on Saturday morning, the wicket was all against batting. The chief feature of the match was the brilliant crieket of Mr. C. T. Studd, the Cambridge Captain, in the second innings. He went in with the total at 31, and was not out at the close, having thus scored 175 out of 276 while he was in. He was only batting three hours and fifty minutes, and his figures consisted of seven teen fours, eight threes, nineteen twos, and forty-five singles. He ought to have been caught and bowled when he had got fifty-four, and gave two subsequent chances. Even allow ing for these mistakes, the innings was a most brilliant one, his driving being wonderfully clean and well timed, and his cutting very smart. The University won by 200 runs.
