Yorkshire won its first match of the season with Middlesex at Lord’s on Friday, having at the finish a majority of five wickets. The Southern shire was anything but well repre sented with the Hon, A. Lyttelton, the Steels, and others absent. The scoring on both sides was below the average, but the equality of the totals was extremely singular, with only a difference of two runs in the four innings. Ulyett hit very freely both times for Yorkshire, and Hall showed good cricket in the second innings, though he ought to have been caught at the wicket very soon after his arrival. Mr. Ridley again played in fine style for his score of 60 not out, and this was decidedly the feature of the Middlesex batting. Mr. C. P. Leslie made his first appearance in England in this match since his return from Australia, Score and analysis :— M id d le se x . First Innings. Mr. I. D. Walker, b Harrison 3 Mr.A. P.
