128 CRICKET ; A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. MAY 24, 1883. C R I C K E D W / I M B R I D G E . CAMBRIDGE UNIVERSITY v. M e . THORN TON’S ENGLAND ELEVEN. In all probability, the Cambridge eleven would have won their . second -match of the season. When time expired on Saturday they had seven wickets to fall and only 44 to win, so that the game may fairly be regarded as drawn in their favour;’ During the three days 765 runs were scored for thirty-three wickets, and on the whole the batting throughout was of the best kind. The features of the match were the brilliant play of Messrs. C. T. Studd and Hawke for Cambridge, and'Hon." Alfred‘ Lyttelton for Mr. Thornton’s team. ..TJie.two Cantabs put on 160 runs while they were together by the finest cricket/ Mr. Hawke was in for- four hours and a quarter without a chance.' Mr. Lyttelton was at the wickets only, two hours and fifty minutes, and in ’his score were twelve’ fours. None of the University bowlers proved, very effective, but the England eleven was a .strong one, and the show of the Cantabs'Was 'decidedly good. Ten out’ ’of the England Eleven tried their hands with the ball. - Score and analysis :— • -------- E leven of E ngland . rr - Fiijst Innings.- Hon. A.
