The Yorkshire Eleven are to be congratulated on the brilliant victory achieved over a strong team of the Marylebone Club and Ground at Lord’s on Tuesday last. The three first innings had ’only been productive of moderate scoring, and on Tuesday when Yorkshire went in with 118 to win there seemed some chance of an in teresting finish/ Ulyett and Emmet, though, by the very best cricket, knocked off all the runs required and Yorkshire won by ten wickets, a splendid performance against five such bowlers as trundled for the Marylebone Club. The 118 runs were got in a little over two hours, Ulyett contributing 79 out of the 114 from tho bat. The Sheffielder’s batting was more than usually powerful, and two of his strokes over the mem bers’ enclosure by the pavilion were grand hits. His figures were nine fours, three threes, nine twos, and sixteen singles. Emmett’s 35 were got without a mistake. The Yorkshire bowling was all round up to the best standard, and Peel, last year’s colt, quite maintained his reputation. Harrison and Sugg made their first appearance tor the County in this match.
