LEICESTERSHIRE v. SURREY. Surrey’s first appearance against one of the minor counties did not prove successful. Mr. Shuter was not able to captain the team at Leicester in the match begun on the Ayle- stone Road Grounds, Leicester, on Thursday last and concluded on Saturday. The Surrey Eleven was by no means representative, and in addition, Pooley injured his thumb, so that he was practi cally unable to bat, and Mr. Read had to take the wicket. Leicestershire won, after a close finish, by seven runs. The result was mainly due to the good batting of Mr. C. Marriott and the effective bowling of Parnham and Rylott.
