The opening fixture of the season for both these neighbouring counties was the above match played at Brighton on Monday and Tues day last. The contest as a rule has been pro ductive of some high scoring, but on this occa sion, the wickets, owing to the rain, were not in a condition favourable for run getting, aud the Hampshire eleven only made a poor display. In the first innings one of last year’sWinchester College Eleven, H. S. Saunders Davies played good cricket for forty-two, but otherwise there wus no batting at all noteworthy, and in the second attempt the eleven could only reach a total of 60. Sussex had an easy victory by an iunings and 42 runs. First Innings. Mr. R. Thorne, run out .. 1 Mr. C. R. Seymour, b Hide.. 8 Mr. C. H. Longman, c Phil lips, b Hide............................
