As the old playgoers used to say, “ When you can’t get Kean you must be satisfied with Macready.” Under such circum stances it is needless to criticise the play. There are only three of the last year’s choice remaining at Harrow, but the team has a decided acquisition in Lord Athlumney, who, in the first innings, took eight wickets for 34 runs. The best batting form was that shown in the last hour’s play by Buxton and Crawley, when playing for the runs. These two lads represented their school this year in the racquet matches at Prince’s. The following is the score:— E . E . B ow en ’ s E le v e n . BEDDINGTON v. CROYDON. Played at Beddington on May 18, the home team winning in a single innings and 36 runs. Score :— B3DDINGTON. A. F. This annual match was played at Harrow on the 27th of May, and as it usually affords some idea if the prospects of the Harrow Eleven for the ioming season, is looked forward to with consider- ible interest. Upon the present occasion Mr. Bowen’s team was too weak in the howling depart ment to be any test of the capabilities of the t'oungsters. Just as the match was commencing, i telegram, received by the manager, to inform him that the bowler upon whom he mainly relied could not come, did not mend matters; but managers of E. E.
