The change, which is made in deference to a generallyexpressed wish, will admit of the publication of full scores of impor tant matches begun on Monday, and will thus make each paper a more perfect record than hitherto. It is earnestly requested that scores of Saturday’s matches should be sent in at latest by first post on Tuesday morning — if possible on Monday morning, The already great success of the paper and the consequent increasing number of scores every week render it imperative that Secretaries should forward their matches promptly. DERBYSHIRE. Derbyshire opened the season in a more unpro mising fashion with its match against M.C.C. and Ciound at Lord’s, begun on Thursday last. The Marylebone Eleven was not a particularly strong one, especially with the bat ; but with the excep tion of Mycroft, who is not likely to grow more effective as he grows in years and weight, the bowl ing was so poor that Mr. Tylecote, Midwinter, and . 1 'ftergill all scored largely. The Derbyshire team, nVfhe absence of Messrs. L. C. Docker and H.Evans, on last year’s form the best bat and bowler in the c°u ty, was not representative ; but the show all round was very much below the average of first- :>shires. In neither innings did the total reach thr^e figures, and Midwinter, who only gave two chances just before the close of the Marylebone hatting, in his one attempt scored more than the whole Derbyshire eleven in their two innings. Fothergill, a Northumbrian by birth, whom Somer setshire can now claim by residence, made a very promising debut for M.C.C. He hit with great freedom, and with more practice in good cricket bids fair to become one of the best all-round pro fessionals. Omitting those got from Mycroft, 261 runs were scored from 113 overs of four Derbyshire bowlers, and the average cost of each of the six wickets was just under 44runs. D erbyshire . First Innings. Lord Harris and Mr. Mackinnon played a good innings for the Yeomanry, but both were missed when they had scored 25, otherwise a different feature would have been put upon the game. Messrs. Bligh and Callow did well for the Camp. The result was two most enjoyable and cheery days’ cricket in lovely weather. R oyal E ast K ent M ounted R ifles . First innings.
