22 CRICKET; A "WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. m ay 17 , ism . s from the Cricket Gossip in the Melbourne Leader of April 1 :— “ I am able to bear iestimony to the excellent conduct of the ieam, publicly and socially. A thorough food lot of fellows, they have gone through i six months’ trip, happily without illness )r accident, leaving beliindthem individually tnd collectively, a good name and many i'iends.” It is needless to add that Alfred 3haw has, as we foretold, indignantly repudi- ited the scandal referred to last week. The >erson who originated that report would lave a bad quarter of an hour of it at 3ramallLane or Trent Bridge if his identity vere discovered. T ames L illywiiite in a letter to a co n temporary o f yesterday, writes :— “ AH the English papers seem to thinli that Shaw ind Shrewsbury were the only two in the specula- ion of the English team to Australia.” I he refers to the firstnumber of “ C r ic k e t , ” >age 4, “ Shaw’s Team in Australia,” he vill see that there was one exception. It ippears, though, that report I exaggerated the >rofit to the promoters when I gave them £1,600 each. It was only iJGOO. • * T p :$ C 0 I ^ E v B 0 e K * « Continued. EALING v. PALLINGSWICK.
