Cricket 1882

SEPr. 21, 1882. CRICKET; A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. 297 T H E D U LW IC H W A N D E R E R S ’ W E E K . This week’s cricket, taking the place of the ex cursions for the previous five years made by the JEolian C.C., the team, as hitherto, being selected by and under the captaincy of Mr. T. R. Pearse, resulted in the winning of three and the losing of three matches. Mr. H. L. Bailey batted consistently well throughout the week, his average being 26. F. H. Pilleau, average 13, and F. Smith, average 11, were the next on tho list. Mr. R. L. Allport’s bowl ing was invaluable, he taking 34 wickets in six innings. The pleasure of the week was somewhat marred by the weather, and the absence of a wicket-keeper was severely felt. Tunbridge Wells was the head-quarters for the week, the scenes of the various matches being reached by driving from the Wells. Taking all things into consideration the Wanderers were not dissatisfied with the results of the six matches, and had not ill-luck persistently attended the batting efforts of some of the team no doubt more matches would have been.
