I The annual trial of players who have never be- Iore taken part iu amatch at Lords took place on Mon- ay. Notts furnished six of the youngsters, York- 1 hire four, Surrey three, Middlesex, Kent and Leicestershire two, and Cambridgeshire, Essex, IDerbyshire, each one. Marylebone was strcng in I>rofessionals but it was not a strong batting eleven Imd as the ground had not yet recovered from the ecent rains the scoring was low on both sides. In he first innings of the Colts the bowling of Morley vho took 17 wickets for 37 runs was so good that io batsman could get double figures, but in the second they made a better show, scoring 120 to vhich Jackson of Surrey was the chief contributor 1vith nineteen. Nine bowlers were tried in the I eeond innings of the Club and as the out cricket I>fall round was very fair no one made any lolig stay I xcept Mr. Vernon and Maguire. The Colts won by I 2 runs. In the match Morley took thirty wickets |or 80 runs. COLTS. First Innings. Price, Notts., b Morley i. This the opening match of the Richmond Club was played on Saturday the 6th inat., in the Old Deer Park, in magnificent weather, and before a fair number of spectators. The ground, however, was very soft, which accounts for the small scores. For Richmond Capt. Borrowes and Mr, Springett played well and carefully, while Mr. Udal hit about in his own vigorous fashion. For the Royal Military College, Messrs. Oates and Kaye played excellent cricket. We must not forget to mention Mr. Carrutliers’ activity in the long field. As will bo seen from the score Richmond won a good match by 13 runs. R ichmond . First Innings. Second Innings. Capt. K. Borrowcs, c &b Oates 26 b Ilall ..........................25 Mr. A.
