FOURTEEN OF NUNHEAD CLUBS. The first of a series of eleven trial mitclies fixed by the Surrey Club during the month of May was played at the Oval on Tuesday, May 2. The test practice during the previous week has produced more than one youngster above the average of late years and as the Nunhead team were only moderate with bat and ball and very uncertain in the field the Colts had all the best of the day’s cricket. Abel, a diminutive player who male his debut last year, showed good cricket for his 65, with only one hard chance when he had got 20. Dible was again effectiva with the ball, taking six wickets for 15 runs. Nina bowlers were tried for Nunhead; the most successful was Murden (slow round), who got seven wickets for 28 runs. MALDEN DISTRICT. Played at the Oval on Wednesday last. Malden did well to get rid of five Colts wickets for 39 runs, but Abel and Mr. Colman soon got the measure of the weak bowling of Malden and the pair added 158 before they were parted. Abel’s 98 was another excellent performance. Mr. Colman hit freely for his 88. The Malden batting was feeble in the ex treme. Jones and G. Giffen) Played at Addiscombe, 011 May 0. Messrs. S. Jones and G. Giffen, two of the Australian team, made their debut in England ill this match, and won the game for the City Ramblers. Mr. Giffen hit very freely for his 37, but Mr. Jones was thrown out when attempting to steal a short run. It will be seen that the Australians secured all the wickets and half the runs; indeed, without their assistanc) the Ramblers would have fared very badly. Jones bowled 19 overs for 18 runs and five wickets ; Giffen, 19 overs for 16 runs and four wickets. Score:— A ddiscombe . C. J. Foss, st Brierley, b G iffen .......................... T.
