Cricket 1882

134 CRICKET; A WEEKLY RECORD OF THE GAME. JULY 6, 1882. Whether it is a “ no-hall” if the howler in delivering the ball hit the wicket with his foot. (No.) ' L a u r ie P a b k .— Saturday last I was playing for the Laurie Park C. C. against the Albert, andwas given out in the following manner. The bowler delivered theball, and the batsman played it, theballwasthen returned to the wicket-keeper, and he returned it to the bowler in the usual way; at the time I was outside the popping crease, having not returned from backing up the ball; the bowler puts down my wicket, and I was given out. Was I fairly out or not, as in the M.C.C. rules it says, “ the ball shall be considered dead after finally settling in the wicket-keeper’s hands ? ”— (The umpire is the sole judge whether the ball has been finally settled in the wicket-keeper’s hands, or whether it is his intention to keep the ball still alive.) S. Hudson.—1. Doestbe“ hattriek” consistof clean bowling 3 wickets with consecutive balls, or obtain ing the 3 wickets by any means?—(We consider the “ hat trick ” to be bowling 3 wickets in 3 consecutive balls. The only place in which we have known the penalty to be paid is St. Albans, the centre of the straw hat trade.)—2. A bowler delivers a ball, in doing so he kicks the wicket and removes the bails, the ball bowls the batsman at the other end, but the umpire had not declared it a “ no ball.” Must the umpire declare a “ no ball,” and would the batsman be out under the circumstances?—(The batsman is out.)—3. Can a man who bowls “ round the wicket ” have a man out as “ leg before? ”— (Yes.) L ivebpool v. B irkenhead P abk . —Some lively run-getting was the result of this match, played at Birkenhead Park on Friday and Saturday. Birken head Park scored 315, and Liverpool 256 for two wickets. (Mr. D.
