ABOUT THE AUTHOR Mark Rowe has worked as a journalist since he left the University of Bristol in 1989 with a first-class degree in history. He is the author of The Victory Tests: England v Australia 1945 (2010) and is the editor of the Lives in Cricket series. The ACS has published his history of English cricket since 1840, The Summer Field (2016) and his biography of Brian Sellers, Yorkshire Tyrant (2017). He took up cricket after a break of 20 years in 2016, as wicket-keeper for the Ramblers, a wandering club around his hometown of Burton upon Trent; but his ambition is still to become a leg-spin bowler.
