History of Bucks CCC
If playing credentials were to count then a move to first-class status would have been more credible at a later date, but the character of the cricket remained a world apart from the first-class game. Perhaps the idea was floated informally or in jest –“You’re too good for us, Franklin, you ought to be playing with the big boys!” Either way there is certainly nothing to suggest that Bucks ever seriously entertained the idea of playing cricket throughout the summer with the likes of Middlesex, Yorkshire and Lancashire, though it should be said that some of those who mooted promotion for minor counties envisaged that they could take part in the first-class game without playing a full programme of matches throughout the summer.
