The Dorset papers at the Kent Archive Office, Maidstone, give a full score with additional information, attributing blame for run-outs (Miller (1) - Minchin’s fault; Bowra (2) - Tankerville’s fault) which, apart from being interesting in itself, gives valuable information about who was batting in partnership. The Dorset papers also tell us that Wood (2) was ‘thrown out by Brett’, which is assumed to mean run out, and that Aylward (2) and Barber (2) were out first ball. These details tend to increase confidence in the general reliability of the score, besides adding colour and interest. One can almost sense the delight of England’s backers when Stevens removed the dangerous Aylward first ball. 64
