Kent had Stevens, White and Yalden as given men. The team also included Bayton (also Boyton or Boynton), assumed to be John although George is possible. He was not a Kent man but is known to have been associated with the Hambledon Club; Buckly notes press reports that Pattenden and Bayton replaced R.Miller and J.Minchin in the Kent team. The ground name has been modernised: in the 18th century it was ‘Cheden’. (Variant) SB has the visitors as England but several newspapers confirm that it was Kent with three of Surrey. 58
