Great Cricket Matches 1772-1800
England v Surrey (page 267): 11 June 1800 Recent research by John Goulstone has clarified the appearances of J.Weller (later J.W.Ladbroke) and F.C.Ladbroke in major cricket. J.Weller played in 4 ‘great’ and ‘important’ matches 1800-1802; following an inheritance in 1819 he changed his name to J.W.Ladbroke and appeared as such in a further 15 ‘important’ matches 1821-1826, seven of which are incorrectly attributed to F.C.Ladbroke in the 1820-29 volume of the ACS scores series. His total career in ‘great’ and ‘important’ matches therefore comprised 19 appearances between 1800 and 1826, while the career of F.C.Ladbroke, whose involvement was mainly with the Homerton, Marylebone and Epsom clubs, amounted to 22 matches 1804-1822. Specifically, the appearances of F.C.Ladbroke in the following matches should be ascribed to J.W.Ladbroke. 3 Jul 1821 MCC v Godalming 9 Jul 1821 Godalming v MCC 1 Jul 1822 MCC v Godalming 16 Jun 1825 MCC v Godalming 23 Jun 1825 Godalming v MCC 17 Jul 1826 Sussex v Hampshire and Surrey 7 Aug 1826 Hampshire and Surrey v Sussex 278
