The teams returned on 2 July to complete the match as many of the players were already committed to appear at Coxheath from 29 June. At the end of day 1, Ring was the man out in England (1); at the end of day 3, Clifford was the man out in England (2). The weather on day 1 was ‘showery’ according to the Gentlemen’s Magazine , and the Times reports that only 140 balls (i.e. 35 4-ball overs) were bowled, the bowlers being Harris, Purchase, and Beldham. (Variant) KG gives Hants (2) byes 0, total 40-4 (i.e. 2 short of victory) and says at 7pm England conceded but KG is not local and the Times report is fuller so it has been accepted. 126
