Finch, playing for Kent, is probably the same man as played for XXIII of Kent at Woolwich in 1800 (SB p281); he is assumed not to be the same as J.Finch, who played from 1792 for Oldfield/Berkshire, although it must be observed that the number of Kent players sharing surnames with players appearing elsewhere is far too large to be coincidence (see the Supplementary Notes to Hornchurch v WCC and Moulsey Hurst, 15 May 1787). Some sources have T.Pattenden appearing in this match but he was now aged 44; W.Pattenden, aged 38, seems a likelier candidate but there is no proof either way.
