attracted 20,500 people, with 12,500 on Whit Monday. Glamorgan were the visitors to New Road that year but the Essex-Worcestershire fixture was restored over the August Bank Holiday, Farnes having match figures of 14-119 as Essex won by four wickets. As far as results were concerned, the Bank Holidays were anything but fruitful for Worcestershire. They won only four matches, in 1923, 1924, 1929 and 1931, losing 16 with 15 left drawn. Of the five played outside the holiday periods in 1936-38, each side won twice but the lingering shadows of the 1930s were the tragic deaths of Maurice Nichol, Dudley Pope and Charles Bull.
