Some near misses, when that definition was nearly but not quite fully satisfied, are also noted. I don’t pretend that the events and occurrences that this book describes are of any particular moment in the wider scheme of things, but I hope that they might intrigue a certain type of cricket-follower. Or as Abraham Lincoln (and later Jean Brodie) put it, that “people who like this sort of thing will find this the sort of thing they like”. That will do for me. Introduction
