Dimming of the Day
ABOUT THE AUTHOR Simon Sweetman went to the same school as John Arlott (though many years later) so qualifies as a Basingstoke Boy who watched his early cricket at May’s Bounty (though in those days it was always called The Folly). Being fat and useless at sport but numerate, he was roped in as a scorer early on. A slightly better player later on, his main claim to fame is having organised cricket matches wherever he worked. He is worried for the game as a Hampshire supporter who has watched county cricket being downgraded constantly by the people who run the game, reducing the chances of support at the roots by treating the counties as simply a training ground for England. For no very good reason he has worked in tax for many years on both sides of the fence. He has previously written a Lives in Cricket on H.V.Hesketh- Prichard and is the editor of The Cricket Statistician .
