Cricket's Historians

Introduction historic value and many of the contributors are historians or statisticians in one sense or another. Two organisations have helped to foster an interest in cricket’s history and statistics since the Second World War and have published ‘in house’ periodicals with historical contents. The Cricket Society was founded in 1945 and The Association of Cricket Statisticians and Historians in 1973, these societies’ histories and development are explained and some other lesser such societies are mentioned in context. In the final resort, what works are included or excluded are the choice of the author, but every endeavour has been made to at least inspect all the published material that is worthy of inclusion. Finally the work is laid out in chronological order, for no other reason than that the authors featured only had access to the data available at the time their work was written.
