Hill, himself, led the batting aggregates and averages, but other notable performances were those of team-mates Warwick Armstrong, who carried his bat through the second innings of the second Test at Johannesburg for 159 not out, and spinners Jack Saunders (15 for 176) and Bill Howell (14 for 174) in two Tests apiece.
