Acknowledgments My major acknowledgment is to an anonymous donor who left a cuttings book in a brown envelope addressed to me at Adelaide Oval. The cuttings book included all of Hill’s articles pasted in but without dates or the headings and leads to articles, or even the newspaper source. Fortunately, a couple of the pieces contained clues which meant I was easily able to obtain the month and the paper without much difficulty. The cuttings book provided the prompt and finding the originals on microfilm the context. Without the first action the second would not likely have come to light and the articles would probably have languished in the newspapers forever. My second thanks are due to Advertiser Newspapers, Adelaide for giving copyright permission to reproduce the original pieces. Finally I would like to thank Adelaide historian Brian Samuels for widening my appreciation of Sammy Lunn; Trevor Ruddell of the Melbourne Cricket Club library for information about Hugh Trumble; and Ray Webster for assistance in connection with the statistician R.H. Campbell. The wonders of Google and Wikipedia brought other significant non-cricketing information to light. 102
