ABOUT THE AUTHOR Jeremy Lonsdale has been following Yorkshire cricket since the early 1970s. This is his third book on the history of cricket in the county. The first – ‘A Game Taken Seriously: The Foundations of Yorkshire’s Cricketing Power’ (ACS Publications, 2017) – was shortlisted for the Lord Aberdare Literary Prize for Sports History for books published in 2017 and longlisted for the Cricket Society/ MCC Cricket Book of the Year Award 2018. It examined the social history of cric ket in Yorkshire in the 19 th century. In 2018, the ACS also published his book ‘Tom Emmett: The Spirit of Yorkshire Cricket’ about the life of the great all-rounder and Yorkshire captain. In March 2019, he received the Brooke-Lambert Trophy for the Statistician of the Year, presented by the Association of Cricket Statisticians and Historians.
