Tabrum, Burnett (‘Bertie’, 1877-1940) Born 11 August 1877, Leytonstone, Essex. Died 9 April 1940, Folkestone, Kent. Played 1902, 1903. He was the son of Burnett Tabrum JP and Agnes Maria Bowman. In 1891 he was a boarder at Osborne House School, Margate. After leaving school, Bertie joined his father’s hop merchant business. They and Frederick Bruce Anderson were partners until 1918 when Burnett senior retired. In 1896 Bertie became a Second Lieutenant in the 1st Volunteer Brigade of the Essex Regiment. At the outbreak of the Great War, he was commissioned as a captain in the 26th Battalion 3rd Tyneside Irish and in 1915 he was promoted to major. He married Mary Alice Josephine (May) Irvine and they had daughter Eileen Mary in 1903. They divorced and both remarried, Bertie in October 1933 to Edith Margaret Dalton or Thrupp at Westminster. He died in 1940 leaving £62,262. He played four Essex Second XI matches in 1902-3, in which his only significant contribution was 30 against Sussex at Hove in 1903. Died 6 February 1917 Basra, Iraq. Played 1914. He was the eldest child of Alexander Thompson and Annie Greenhill. Alexander was a commercial traveller in carbonic acid gas, working for a brewer. In 1911 Cecil’s parents were living at 33 Seymour Gardens Ilford and he was boarding at Forest School, which in 1914 won nine cricket matches and drew three. A fine all-round sportsman, Thompson was one of the school’s main bowlers and made the highest individual score of the season, 161 not out against King’s Rochester.
